Thank you to all who were able to attend our meeting! We missed those of you
who were not able to join us. Please know that you were thought of as we
conducted our business and chatted with one another!

1. Rowan/Shirley’s Closet – Esther thanked everyone for their generous
donations. Our contributions are needed and appreciated. She will
continue to collect items at October movie group and book club meetings.
We can also drop off items directly to the new location at 124 State Street,
Glassboro, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 9-1. If you choose to write a
check, please make it out to the Rowan Foundation. You may be able to
include your donation in your taxes. You can also volunteer to help on-site.

two students.)
Our local branch dues of $100.00 are due by the end of December. Please
send your check, written out to AAUW – Gloucester County, to Pam Buchanan,
306 Belmont Court, Mullica Hill, NJ 08062
Some members have had problems paying their State dues when renewing
National membership. I am still waiting for an answer from AAUW as to how to
go about fixing this.
There also appears to be a change in how National is handling dues paid at
different times during the year. In the past, I believe, your National dues were
due by the end of June and July started the new dues year for everyone. It now
seems that you get a full year of membership starting whenever you paid. This
especially impacts new members. However, if you do not renew when your year
is up, your membership is terminated, and you have to be reinstated. Also, if your
National membership is not current, you can’t be a branch member. In the early

part of next year, I will send a list of renewal dates for each member. If you
renewed last June and it was sooner than required, your membership will
continue to the end of June 2025.
If you have any questions, please contact me (Pam) after next week.
(Wishing Pam all the best with her upcoming hip surgery!)

The Charitable Allocations Committee was pleased to report that we were able
to fund all requests at, or above, the amount requested, for a total distribution of
$3500. The committee members were: Annie Lovett, Chair, Pam Corrigan, Sara
McClain, and Carol Sabol.

3. Future Meetings and Event Planning – A sign-up sheet was circulated for
members to volunteer to help with our future meetings and activities.
Everyone is requested to PLEASE sign up for at least one event. If you were
not at our meeting, please let Sara or Carol Sabol know which
activity/activities you would be willing to help with. The signup sheet is
attached to these minutes so you can see what you have signed up for and
where help is still needed. The co-chairs and committee members will
contact members about food. We often have an overabundance of
contributions, so it was proposed that we only ask half the membership at a
time, to bring food. Please note that our “spring fling” has been moved to
early June. Sara is exploring the possibility of holding it at Bells Lake where,
as a member, she can reserve pavilion space, and we can enjoy the
amenities there. We can bring in our own food and beverages. Often there
is music on the weekends – a bit too early to know at this point. Hoping to
book it for Saturday, June 7 th .
Other upcoming events include: December – Holiday Gathering –
members only – We are looking into a restaurant setting this year; January
– Brunch and Business Meeting (Aimee has offered to host); Coming of Age,
probably in March (Pam has offered to host); Spring Business Meeting
(either April or May) still need a host; and June – Springing into Summer as
mentioned above. Guests are welcome to come to our June event. Motion
made by Lauren and seconded by Annie.

Sue Dixon is working on some trips we might be interested in.
Currently there is a scarecrow exhibition at Peddler’s Village until October
27th . Please let her know if you are interested in attending. Last year
several members attended a bell choir in December and that might be a
possibility again this year. The Wheaton Arts Festival of Fine Crafts is
Saturday, October 5th from 10 – 5, 1000 Village Drive, Millville, NJ. A
dinosaur event will be held nearby in the spring (Sue has more details) and
Susan Quemore mentioned that walking again in Parvin Park is another
possibility. Judy mentioned a Blues and Brews event sponsored by the
Rotary of Mullica Hill. It was Saturday, September 28th .
All members are encouraged to email the group about any
interesting and worthwhile events to attend in the future.
4. Newsletter Update – Thank you, Nancy, for continuing to keep us informed
via your newsletter. Please email her directly with any information you
wish to have included. A suggestion was made to include a section called “I
know a person” to share information about doctors, handy”men”, etc. but
the membership decided to just email one another with requests for
suggestions and recommendations.
5. Interest Groups – All going well!
—-Book Club—-Susan Quemore, chairperson
—-Movie Group—-Lauren Kaltwasser, chairperson.
—-Happy Hour—-Patti Knepler, new chairperson. Patti requested that you
email her or call (she does not text) if you plan to attend or find out later
that you have a change of plans and can no longer come. That way she can
better organize seating for everyone. Happy Hours alternate between the
third Wednesday or third Thursday of the month.
6. Friendship Fund – Please let Sara or Carol know of any details that you want
shared. Seems like A LOT has been happening to our members lately. We
voted in June to not use our AAUW funds to send a condolence gift to
members for loss of spouse. It is up to each member individually to express
her condolences via cards, emails, phone calls, gifts, etc.

7. Community Outreach – At the end of the meeting our discussion turned to
ways we can help promote our ideals and mission within the community.
Human trafficking is still a concern, raised at our June meeting. Helping
with voter involvement, promoting organ donation, helping students
navigate the financial aid process and Tech Trek were also discussed. With
the new year, at our January meeting, let’s consider how we can foster the
AAUW mission. Carol and I will continue to forward e-mails we receive
regarding AAUW mission-based programs. Hopefully, these will give us
some ideas as to how we can also participate.
8. Thank You – To Carol Sabol for generously offering her lovely home to host
our September meeting. We enjoyed delicious food and drink brought by
our members, wonderful company, and, we hope, an informative business
meeting. If any information was missed and/or incorrectly stated, please
let Sara know so the minutes can be corrected. Sometimes it is hard to
hear all everyone has to say. Again, thank you, for coming! Love to you all.
